The Government Performance Index (GPI)
This index measures the performance of public representatives in the legislature and at executive level. The executive measure includes the Cabinet Score and Presidential Approval Rating. The Government Performance Index also measures the performance of the judiciary and that of the Chapter 9 Institutions.
The Trust Index (TI)
This index measures the trust that the citizens have in political parties, government, government institutions and government leaders.
Whereas members of political parties play a key role for their political parties in election campaigns, they only constitute a fraction compared to the number of total number voters (population density).
The Democracy Index (DI)
This index measures the state of our democracy in South Africa in terms of plurality, bill of rights, political culture and accountability. It also measures the competitiveness of our democracy vis-à-vis the rest of the continent and internationally.
General political parties have no strong presence in any province, region or locality but exist in small pockets throughout the country. They may have representation in the National Assembly and in one or more provincial legislatures. They may also have seats in one or more local municipalities. Currently this category includes COPE, PAC and APC.
